Las Vegas, Nev. --- The San José State men's basketball team had four players finish in double-figure scoring, but UNLV pulled away with a 76-67 win on its home floor in Mountain West play.

Ryan Welage led the Spartans (3-18, 0-10 MW) with 21 points and Oumar Barry matched his career high with 12 points, but UNLV's Brandon McCoy used his 7-foot frame to score a game-high 22 points and haul in 17 rebounds.

The Spartans withstood multiple scoring waves by UNLV (16-6, 5-4) throughout the game. One came early in the first half when the Runnin' Rebels went on a 15-2 run to take a 16-9 lead at the 12:42 mark. SJSU responded about a minute later with an 11-0 run of its own sparked by Barry's layup and alley-oop "smash" as he would say.

UNLV surged back ahead before halftime but Welage's 3-pointer was the last basket of the period which made it 39-34 Runnin' Rebels lead. It was also the 139th three of Welage's career passing Adrian Oliver for second all-time in that category. Only Tim Pierce has more 3-pointers in a Spartan career with 153.

San José State never led in the second half. The Spartans got as close as three, 52-49, with Barry's shot over McCoy with 10:03 left to play. From there UNLV went on a 12-4 run to extend its lead and this time the Spartans could not answer. The lead grew as large as 15 points, 70-55, with 5:36 remaining.

The Spartans committed a season-low seven turnovers and had 12 assists. The rebounding is where SJSU took its biggest hit, losing the battle on the boards 44-24. UNLV grabbed 14 offensive rebounds - six of which came from McCoy - and scored 15 second-chance points.

The Spartans shot 51.7 percent in the second half and 47.5 percent (29-61) for the game. UNLV hit 50.0 percent (29-58) of its field goal attempts.

Jaycee Hillsman scored 11 points and Keith Fisher III finished with 10 points to round out SJSU's double-figure scorers.

Jordan Johnson scored 15 points, Tervell Beck added 12 points and Shakur Juiston finished with 10 points for the Runnin' Rebels.

San José State continues Mountain West play at home on Saturday against New Mexico. Tipoff inside The Event Center is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (PT).
