Two School Records On 1st Day Of Mountain West Swimming & Diving Championships

San Antonio, Texas----- San Jose State University opened the 2018 Mountain West Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with Colleeen Humel setting a school record in the 50 back as part of a 200 medley relay school record time to highlight the Spartans' opening night of the four-day conference meet.

Humel posted a 24.91 leadoff split in the 50 backstroke erasing the previous Spartan best of 25.26 by Heather Denman at the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Championships. Freshman Shona Spikes, junior Brenna Bushey and senior Brittany Heng finished off the 200 medley relay in a 1:38.86 time for third place. The old mark was 1:39.38 by the 2012 Spartan foursome of Denman, Kirsten Trammell, Ashlyn Acosta and Megan McCurley at the WAC Championships.

The Spartans had three of their five divers score in the 1-meter dive. Senior Cari Reiswig was the top San Jose State finisher in 14th place. Natasha Sondeno was in 18th place and junior Megan Au scored for the first time in a conference championship with her 20th place finish.

San Jose State wrapped up its first-day action with a ninth-place finish in the 800 free relay.

In the team standings, the Spartans are sixth with 119 points. San Diego State and Nevada share first place with 189 points.

The championships continue on February 15 through February 17.
