Feb. 16, 2018

San José, Calif. --- The San José State University women's tennis team won the doubles point and three singles matches in a 4-0 sweep over the University of San Francisco in a non-conference match.

Playing at the #2 doubles position for San Jose State, Miyo Kobayashi and Laura Malsert teamed up to defeat Alexa Meyer and Margarita Treyes, 6-0. It was their first time this pair played in doubles together.

The duo Tamara Culibrk and Clara Mantaux secured the doubles point for the Spartans after topping the doubles team of Anna Sokiran and Shanna Dos Santos, 6-3.

"We came out very focused in doubles today which also helped us get the team off to a great start in singles," said San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka, whose team has wins in four of their last five matches. "I'm very proud of this team bouncing back from our last match (loss at Cal State Fullerton)."

In singles play, Kobayashi, Malsert and Savannah Sendar each won their respective matches in straight sets.

Playing at the #3-position, Kobayashi defeated Mya Bui, 6-1, 2-2 (retired). Sendar playing at #5-position beat Treyes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Malsert at the #4-position clinched the match for San Jose State against Dos Santos, 6-3, 6-4.

The Spartans are back on the courts on February 24, as they travel to Portland for non-conference matches against Puget Sound and host Portland the next day.
