Sacramento, Calif.-The Spartan vault team recorded the sixth-highest score in school history Friday night as the San José State women's gymnastics team competed in a tri-meet at Sacramento State. The Spartans scored a 194.050 to finish second.
Competing on vault in the final rotation, the Spartans saved the best for last as the team scored a 48.950 to tie for the sixth-best score in school history. Kaprece Nadonza led SJSU with a career-best 9.825 to capture the event title. Taylor Chan was second with a career-best 9.800, while Chelsey Andrada (career best) Kaitlin Won and Ellie Pascoe-Long each had a 9.775 to tie for third place. Josalyn Ray rounded out the scoring with a 9.700.
The Spartans started on bars with a 48.775, led by Won at 9.825. Pascoe-Long, Nadonza and Stephanie Relova each scored a 9.775, followed by Madilyn Probst at 9.650 and Chan at 9.525.
In the second rotation, the Spartans had to count falls in the 47.650 scored on beam. Andrada tied for first with a career-best 9.875, and Relova was fourth at 9.800. Probst scored a 9.550, followed by Chan at 9.225, Won at 9.200 and Michelle Shalit at 9.125.
San José State rotated to floor for the third rotation and scored a 48.750. Chan tied for first with a 9.850, followed by Pascoe-Long at 9.800, Ray at 9.750, Won at 9.725, Andrada at 9.625, and Leah Perrino at 8.675.
Won was third in the all-around at 38.525, while Chan was fourth at 38.400.
The Spartans return home next week for a dual meet with UC Davis on Friday, February 23. The meet begins at 7 p.m., inside The Event Center. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Spartan Ticket Office at (408) 924-SJTX (7589).
