Las Vegas, Nev.-The San José State softball team extended its winning streak to seven games Saturday with wins over Florida International, 4-2, and Seattle U, 10-8, at the Marucci Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
Against FIU, Jacey Phipps and Georgia Blair each recorded two hits, and Phipps drove in two runs for the win. Phipps led off the sixth inning with her first home run of the season and singled in third inning to drive in another run. Blair hit two doubles in the games - one in the first inning to drive in a run and another in the third inning.
The Spartans had to overcome errors in the field and come from behind in the 10-8 win over Seattle U. SJSU trailed 8-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth before scoring three times. Emma Entzminger had three hits, three runs scored and drove in two to lead the team. She hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and led off the third inning with a double. Madison Aurin started the Spartan scoring for the game with a two-run home run in the first inning.
Spartan pitcher Caroline Bowman went 2-0 in the circle on Saturday. She got a complete-game win against Florida International, striking out five, walking one and allowing two earned runs in 28 batters faced. Bowman also pitched the final two innings against Seattle U to get the win in relief. She allowed three hits and only one unearned run, walked two and struck out one to improve her record to 5-0.
San José State plays its final game at the Marucci Desert Classic on Sunday with a game against Iowa State at 11:15 a.m.
