Las Vegas, Nev.-The San José State softball team finished the Marucci Desert Classic with a 4-1 record after falling to Iowa State, 12-4 in five innings Sunday afternoon in the team's final game of the tournament.
The Spartans scored four runs on six hits but committed three errors in the loss. Cassidy Clark and Madison Aurin each had two hits, while Aurin drove in three runs for SJSU.
The Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Aurin hit a two-run home run. However, Iowa State responded with four runs in the top of the second and third innings to take an 8-3 lead after three innings.
Five pitchers were used by SJSU in the game with the loss going to starter Aurin who gave up four earned runs and three hits in one-plus innings pitched. The staff faced 30 batters in five innings pitched.
San José State is now 8-2 on the season. The team plays LSU this Thursday in Stockton before playing next weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs. The Spartans face Auburn, St. John's, Wisconsin, Mississippi State and Oregon.
