Final Stats

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose State women's basketball team was in the midst its longest losing streak in the last three years, eight games, but without the services of starting point guard Taylor Turney, SJSU defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack 57-54 on Wednesday night in The Event Center.

Analyss Benally led the SJSU (7-19, 4-11 MW) with 13 points and Mikaylah Wilson added 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Megan Anderson led the Spartans with a team and career-high nine rebounds.

Neither team was lighting it up from the floor in the first three quarters, but in the fourth the Spartans shot 61 percent including a crucial 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

SJSU which had led virtually the entire game, saw Camariah King hit her team's only three pointer of the night to give Nevada (12-14, 5-10 MW) a 38-37 lead with 9:52 to play in the fourth.

Benally responded on the Spartans' next possession with a one of her game-high three buckets from beyond the arc, to put SJSU back in front 40-38. A Wolf Pack free throw made it a one-point game, but Hallie Gennett hit a three, Wilson made a layup and Myzhanique Ladd scored to put San José State up by eight, 47-39 with 5:49 to play.

It looked like the Spartans were poised to pull away, but Nevada came back and cut the lead to two a pair of times, 51-49 with 2:19 to play and 54-52 at the 1:16 mark.

Wilson hit a jumper in the lane with 48 seconds to go to put SJSU up 56-52. Nevada's Terae Briggs, who finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, made a layup with 33 second to play to get it back to two points, 56-54.

The Spartans turned the ball over on the ensuing inbounds play, but it ended up not hurting them when Tiege Zeller, who led all scorers with 18 points and 15 rebounds, missed a layup with 19 seconds left in the game.

After a pair of Nevada fouls, Danae Marquez went to the line with 11 seconds left and a chance to ice the game. She made one of two free throws to extend the SJSU lead to 57-54.

A desperation three from King, with six seconds to go, missed everything but Nevada ended up with the ball. Fieme'a Hafoka got a steal with one second to play to secure the victory and end the Spartans' eight-game losing streak.

Ladd finished with nine points, six assists and six rebounds. Gennett and Hafoka each scored seven points and Cydni Lewis added six points.

The Spartans head out on the road for their next game. They will play the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Viejas Arena.
