San Luis Obispo, Calif.--Spartan women's golfers Franziska Friedrich and Alexandra Cooper are tied for 24th after the first two rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational played at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. San José State finished the day tied for ninth-place in the 16-team field.
Friedrich and Cooper each shot a 77 in the first round and a 79 in the second round to finish at 156. Friedrich was one of four players in the tournament to make 25 pars over the two rounds. Cooper made two birdies and 23 pars over the two rounds.
Elizabeth Schultz is tied for 45th at 159 (82-77), while Abegail Arevalo is tied for 50th at 160 (79-81). Ysabel Tran rounded out the Spartans with a 164 (83-81) and is tied for 66th.
San José State is playing in its first tournament since the end of October. The Spartans made just eight birdies over the two rounds and also recorded 100 pars. The teams saw a mixture of weather from cool temperatures in the morning to rain in the afternoon.
"The combination of a difficult golf course, extreme weather conditions and this being our first tournament in four months led to a tough day. Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.
Final round action begins Tuesday for the Spartans with tee times beginning at 7:50 a.m. off of hole 10. The Spartans play the final round with Hawaii and New Mexico State.
