Final Stats

Logan, Utah - Senior Myzhanique Ladd hit a running jumper with 1:56 to play in the third quarter and with the bucket became the 17th player in San José State women's basketball to history to pass the 1,000 career point milestone. The achievement was not enough to propel the Spartans to a victory in an 86-78 loss.

Ladd finished with a game-high 21 points, and team-highs with nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. The Seattle, Wash., native sits at 1,009 career points and becomes the sixth Spartan in head coach Jamie Craighead's five seasons to score at least 1,000 points.

In addition to Ladd's accomplishment, freshman Megan Anderson drained a single-game best six three pointers and scored a career-high 18 points. With her six threes on Tuesday night, she has 43 for the season and has tied the freshman record for hoops from beyond the arc. Her six threes are the most by a Spartan in a game this season and the most since Dezz Ramos hit seven at Air Force last season.

Danae Marquez, also a freshman, set a career-high with 13 points and hit a season-high three threes in her second start of the year.

The Spartans (7-21, 4-13 MW) hit the first bucket of the game, a Ladd jumper from the baseline, but Utah State scored 14 of the next 16 and led 14-4 with 4:32 to go in the first period.

Taylor Turney, the team's leading scorer this season, who missed the Nevada game with an injury, returned on Tuesday night and hit her first shot of the game, a three with 3:32 to go, to cut the Aggies lead to seven, 16-9. Turney finished with seven points and four rebounds.

Utah State (7-21, 5-12 MW) led 21-11 heading into the second quarter, having outscored SJSU 16-8 in the paint and having outshot the Spartans 33 percent to 48 percent.

Marquez hit a three pointer to pull San José State to within six, 24-18 with just less than two minutes gone in the second, but it would be as close as SJSU would get for the rest of the game.

A layup by Emmie Harris gave the Aggies an 18-point lead, their largest of the first half, with 3:11 to play before the intermission. The Spartans battled back on a pair of Ladd layups and an Anderson three and trailed by 12 points, 40-28, heading to the locker rooms.

Throughout the third and into the fourth quarter, Utah State maintained a double-digit lead. After a Hailey Bassett layup with 8:34 to go, the Aggies had their biggest lead of the game, 24 points, 78-54.

Ladd responded and sank back-to-back layups to cut the deficit to 20. That's when the Spartans caught fire from long range.

Six of the final seven Spartans' buckets were from beyond the arc. Anderson sank two in a row followed by one from Marquez, another from Anderson and one from Analyss Benally to make it five threes in a row.

Marquez hit a jumper with 1:47 to play to trim the lead to single digits for the first time since early in the second quarter and after Anderson's sixth three of the day, with 1:02 left, the score was 86-78.

Neither team scored in the last minute and the Aggies came away with the eight-point win.

The Aggies had four players in double figures. Shannon Dufficy lead her team with 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Cydni Lewis scored six points and had four boards. Mikaylah Wilson pulled down five rebounds and added four points, and Benally scored six points and three rebounds.

The Spartans return to The Event Center on Friday night to take on Air Force in the regular season finale. Ladd and Hallie Gennet will be honored in a Senior Ceremony prior to the 7:00 p.m. tip off.
