San José State women's track & field's jumper/sprinter Destiny Longmire and men's basketball's Ryan Welage are the January Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month presented by O'Connor Hospital.Longmire broke two school records at the Ed Jacoby Invitational on January 13. A distance of 6.24 meters in the long jump earned first place at the meet, broke her own school record and ranked eighth in the country at the time of the jump. The sophomore from Moreno Valley, Calif., also set the school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.55. Her time beat the previous record which was set in 2015 and earned first place in the meet finals.Welage averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 rebounds during January for the SJSU men's basketball team. He led the team in scoring six out of eight games during the month including the Jan. 27 game versus Wyoming when he dropped a career-high 37 points. On Jan. 9 at San Diego State, he became the 15th men's basketball player at SJSU to reach 1,000 career points. Since then he has climbed up to 11th place on the all-time scoring list.
