Bandon, Ore.----- Sean Yu fired a two-under par 69 keeping the San Jose State University men's golf team in contention to finish in the top-half of the team standings at the Bandon Dunes Championship.

Yu had a second round of four birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 12th hole offsetting two bogeys and a double bogey on the 6,633-yard par 71 Pacific Dunes course on the Bandon Dunes Resort. The sophomore transfer caught fire on the 11th with three birdies and his eagle over five holes and parred out the last three holes for his first sub-70 score of the spring season.

Yu's 18 holes were a microcosm of San Jose State's day. The Spartans battled through an unexpected shift in the morning winds compared to the March 11 opening round. San Jose State was seven-over par as a team after nine holes, an 11-stroke difference from one day to the next, but with a change in the wind and Yu leading the way the Spartans were six-under as a team coming home for a one-over par 285.

After 36 holes, San Jose State is tied with Southern Utah for eighth place in the 14-team field at three-over par 571. First-round team leader Arizona State remains in first at 551. Utah is second at 556. The Spartans are just four shots behind sixth-place Gonzaga and two behind seventh-place Oregon's 569.

"I'm pretty proud of the guys and how well they did on the back nine. They showed a lot of heart and character," said San Jose State men's golf coach John Kennaday who already has each of his five players in the lineup with a counting score.

"The wind switched halfway through our round and we were able to turn it on."

San Jose State also counted one-par 72's from Vijay Srinivasan and Bryce Wortman and Kevin Velo's two-over 73. Srinivasan led the team with eight birdies and had three-birdie runs on holes 6 through 8 and 14 through 16. His 12 birdies for two rounds ties him for third most in the 84-player field. Sean Talmadge's second 74 did not count in the Spartans' second round team score.

In the individual race, Velo is the leading Spartan at one-under par 141 and tied for 18th place. Yu and Srinivasan are tied for 21st at even par 142.

Arizona State's Chun An Yu, the co-leader after the first 18, takes a one-shot lead into the final 18 holes after posting a 68 for a 133 total. Utah's Kyler Dunkle, who shared the first-round lead with An Yu, shot a second round 69 and is at 134.
