Spartans Host Santa Clara After Traveling To Saint Mary's

San Jose, Calif .-- San José State's women's tennis team will play its first double-dip of the 2018 season this weekend when it travels to face Saint Mary's on Friday at 3:00 P.M. and hosts Santa Clara on Sunday in the non-conference matches.

The Spartans (9-2) increased their win streak to five in a row after defeating Sacramento State, 4-1. After securing the doubles point at the #3 and #2 spots, San José State won three singles matches against the Hornets. Miyo Kobayashi clinched the match for the Spartans after defeating Maria Gonzalez, 7-5, 6-0.

Savannah Sendar from Netherland is the team leader with eight singles victories and a 13-4 win-loss record.

Kobayashi from Japan topped the Spartans in doubles wins with eight as part of her 15-5 mark in this season.

"It is the busy weekend with two high-quality opponents in St. Mary's on Friday and Santa Clara at home on Sunday. For the team to be successful they need to be focused and clear on the big points and continue to play with confidence," said San Jose State University head coach Chad Skorupka.

The Spartans will close the weekend at home as they host Santa Clara (5-5) on March 18. The match begins at 12:00 p.m. (PT).

For fans attending the Sunday match, San Jose State will be providing free pizza after the doubles match.
