Baseball Loses 9-2 in Game One Against the Gauchos

Santa Barbara, Calif. --- The San Jose State University baseball team (9-11) was defeated 9-2 by UC Santa Barbara (7-11-1) in game one on Friday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. A three-run homer to center field in the sixth inning from Tommy Jew (1-for-2, R, 4RBI, 2BB) gave the Gauchos a 7-2 lead they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.

The Spartans tied things up 2-2 in their third when Brett Bautista (1-for-4, R, RBI) singled up the middle to score Aaron Pleschner (0-for-3, R). Chris Williams singled down the left field line and drove Bautista home for the tying score.

Chris Williams was the Spartans leader on the day going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. In the last five games, Williams has led the team going 11-for-18 with six RBI's.

Shane Timmons went 2-for-3 on the day with one walk. Brett Bautista, David Campbell, and Kyle Morrison also recorded hits at the plate Friday.

Josh Goldberg (2-2) took the loss for the Spartans. Goldberg pitched two scoreless innings in his 4.0 innings played. Cameron Keup, Zach Wallace, Frank Scalzo, Jr., and Brandon Ross finished out the game on the mound for the San Jose State Spartans.

The winning pitcher was Jack Dashwood (1-3). Dashwood pitched 5.1 innings and did not allow an earned run.

The Spartans return to action for game two Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. inside Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
