Vertical leaps as much as 34 inches, 29 repetitions bench pressing 220 pounds and some swift running times all were part of the 2018 San Jose State University Football Pro Day in the Koret Athletic Training Center and in CEFCU Stadium.
Eight seniors from the 2017 team -- punter Michael Carrizosa, defensive backs Andre Chachere, Jermaine Kelly and Maurice McKnight; linebackers Frank Ginda and William Ossai; and offensive linemen Chris Gonzalez and Jeremiah Kolone were measured for height, weight, wing span and hand size; performed physical tests similar to those at the annual National Football League combine in Indianapolis, Ind., and were led through position-specific drills.
These Spartans showed their best in front of 30 National Football League scouts representing 24 teams.
Despite being a victim in a recent automobile accident near campus, Ginda had the best marks in the 220-pound bench press with 29 repetitions, the short shuttle at 4.31 seconds and the 3-cone drill at 6.97 seconds.
Kelly turned heads with a 4.47 40-yard dash time and had the highest vertical leap at 34 inches, longest standing long jump ay 10-feet-5 and best time in the long shuttle at 11.88 seconds.
San Jose State's football weekend will conclude on Saturday, March 24 with a full day of activities for the team and fans starting with a youth football camp and an all-sports carnival at 11:00 a.m.; a Town Hall meeting with athletics director Marie Tuite, football coach Brent Brennan and vice-president for university advancement Paul Lanning; and an Easter egg hunt inside CEFCU Stadium; the opportunity to purchase season tickets and the annual Spring Game starting at 1:30 p.m.
