For the first time in two months, the San Jose State University women's water polo team has a home match when the Spartans host Santa Clara University, Saturday, March 24, at West Valley College.
The opening sprint is set for Noon at the college's Aquatic Center. San Jose State (8-13, 0-1 MPSF) is coming off its most successful weekend of the season winning three of five including two against nationally-ranked teams in sudden-victory overtime. The Spartans needed eight periods to topple then #11-LMU, 8-7, to open the LMU Invitational and nine stanzas to outlast #23-Marist, 6-5 on the Invitational's final day. With a recent win over #15-Wagner, San Jose State had a four-match winning streak and its first victories of the season against teams ranked #15 or higher.
Santa Clara (10-10, 1-1 Golden Coast Conference) split a pair of matches decided by a goal. The Broncos picked up their first conference win of the season defeating Concordia (Calif.), 8-7, but lost to Cal State East Bay, 7-6, on March 17. The two teams are facing each other for the first time since 2016 when the Spartans won, 9-5.
Following the San Jose State-Santa Clara match at noon, the Spartans will play a 1:30 p.m. exhibition contest against a group of San Jose State alumnae. There is no admission charge for San Jose State women's water polo matches at West Valley. Spectators are urged to purchase a campus parking permit available at the kiosks in the parking lot.
