Four Gymnasts Will Compete at NCAA Salt Lake City Regional

Indianapolis, Ind.-Four San José State University women's gymnasts will compete at the 2018 Salt Lake City Regional on Saturday, April 7, at 4 p.m. MT, at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Ellie Pascoe-Long, Taylor Chan, Kaitlin Won and Stephanie Relova will represent the 2018 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champions at the regional meet. Pascoe-Long and Chan will compete on the vault and floor. Won will compete on bars, and Relova will compete on beam.

Pascoe-Long qualified for the vault with a 9.830 regional qualifying score (RQS). She won the vault three times this season and scored a career-best 9.875 in a home with Boise State and Iowa State. Pascoe-Long qualified on the floor with a 9.835 RQS. She won the floor against UC Davis in late February with a career-high 9.900.

Chan will compete at a regional for the second consecutive year as a floor specialist. She qualified on floor with a 9.890 RQS, and won the floor title four times this season. Chan has scored a 9.900 on floor in the past four meets and has not scored lower than a 9.800 all year. Chan also qualified on vault with a 9.820 RQS. She won her only vault title of the year with a 9.875 in the final home meet and scored a career-best 9.900 at UCLA a week later.

Won will compete in her third regional in four years. This year, she qualified as an event specialist on bars with a 9.840 RQS. She won two bars titles this season and scored a career-best 9.875 twice and a 9.800 or better in six meets.

Relova will be making her first appearance at a regional after qualifying on beam with a 9.820 RQS. She scored a 9.875 on beam twice this season including this past weekend at the MPSF Championships where she placed second. Relova scored a 9.800 or better on beam in six meets this year.

Two other Spartan gymnasts were selected as alternates for two events. Chelsey Andrada is the alternate for the beam, while Kaprece Nadonza is the alternate on vault. Andrada had a 9.815 RQS on beam, while Nadonza had a 9.810 RQS on vault.

The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in St. Louis, Missouri, April 20-21, hosted by the University of Missouri, Columbia and the St. Louis Sports Commission. The top two teams from the Columbus, Raleigh and Tuscaloosa regionals will compete in the first semifinal, and the top two teams from the Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and University Park regionals will compete in the second semifinal.

In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
