San Jose, Calif. --- Kellen Strahm recorded his first three-hit game of the season against Saint Mary's (13-9) Tuesday night going 3-for-4 in the 5-2 loss at Municipal Stadium.

In the last 13 games, Kellen Strahm is 19-for-35 (.345 avg.) and leads the Spartans in doubles with five, and triples with two. The sophomore from Eugene, Oregon leads the team in runs scored this season with 21.

After giving up three unanswered runs, the San José State baseball team (9-14) kept themselves within striking distance by scoring two runs in the fifth. The lead-off hitter, Sawyer Pittman (1-for-4, R, RBI), hit his first career home run to make it 3-1. Brett Bautista (0-for-3, BB) walked, but a wild pitch drove Johnny Mendoza (1-for-3, R) to home plate for the score.

Matt Green gave the Gaels a 4-2 lead with two outs in the top of the eighth when the first baseman singled to right field and scored Jackson Thoreson (1-for-3, 2R, RBI). The Gaels offensive firepower came from Matt Green who was 3-for-3 with four RBIs.

The winning pitcher was Ty Madrigal who got his first win of the season. Madrigal did not allow a walk and struck out three batters in his 3.1 innings.

Michael Hobbs recorded his sixth save of the season striking out all three batters in the ninth inning.
