San Diego, Calif.-- The San Jose State University women's tennis team lost to University of San Diego 4-0, in a non-conference match at The Hogan Tennis Center.
The Spartans' only individual victory was at #3 doubles with Jackie Wagner and Laura Malsert teaming up to defeat Gemma Garcia and Carolin Nonemacher, 6-3.
USD's Sophia Chow and Maria-Paula Torres won the doubles point for the Toreros with a 6-4 triumph over San Jose State's Tamara Culbirk and Miyo Kobayashi in the #2 doubles position.
Though Culibrk at #2 and Wagner at #4 each won a set in their respective singles matches, Malsert at #5, Kobayashi at #3 and Savannah Sendar at #6 lost their singles matches in straight sets to give USD the win. For Sendar, it was the first time in 11 dual matches this season she was defeated in singles play.
"We came up short in the doubles point today coming down to the #2 spot. University of San Diego out played us in singles," said Spartans head coach Chad Skorupka.
San Jose State's next match is, Sunday, April 1, at UNLV in a rematch of last year's Mountain West Championship. First serve is at 10:00 a.m.
