Yu & Campbell Match Par In 1st Round At The Goodwin

March 29, 2018

San Francisco, Calif.----- Sean Yu and Ben Campbell each posted even par 71's for the San Jose State University in the first round of The Goodwin men's golf tournament.

Yu had a pair of birdies and a like number of bogeys on the par 71, 7,143-yard TPC Harding course under near pristine conditions in the western part of the city. Campbell needed two of his four birdies over his last three holes to finish at even par.

Only seven players in the morning wave bettered par and Yu and Campbell were among eight golfers to match par.

As a team, San Jose State posted a six-over par 290, tied for fourth best in the morning wave of 12 teams and 60 players. The Spartans also counted Kevin Velo's 73 and Bryce Wortman's 75 in their team scoring for the opening round. Washington and Nevada turned in the top team scores of the morning at 283.

"This is a `thinking man's' golf course that's for sure. It's a tough golf course and it's playing long especially in the morning,'" said San Jose State men's golf coach John Kennaday. "We did OK in the morning wave. The guys played hard and they gutted out a couple of tough rounds. I was proud of the way they played for sure."

The 54-hole tournament continues on March 30 with 18 holes and concludes on March 31 with a third and final round. There is no admission charge for The Goodwin.
