San Jose, Calif.--- The San Jose State baseball team lost both games of a the doubleheader to San Diego State. The Aztecs topped the Spartans 7-2 in game one, and 11-1 in game two.
The Aztecs captured the momentum of the series in the fifth inning of the first game when David Hensley (1-for-5, R, 3RBI) hit a three RBI homer to left field with two outs to grab a 4-2 lead.
In the first game, the Spartans held onto a lead for four innings against the 2017 Mountain West champs, but three home runs from the Aztecs sealed San Jose State's fate.
In the Spartans second, David Campbell (1-for-3, RBI) hit a sacrifice fly to right field with one out that drove Shane Timmons (1-for-4, R) home for a 1-0 lead.
San Diego State answered in their fourth with a Jordan Verdon (1-for-3, 2R, RBI) solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, San Jose State regained the lead with one out when Johnny Mendoza (1-for-3, RBI) singled to shortstop sending home Chris Williams (2-for-4, R) for a 2-1 lead.
In the Aztecs' eighth, Chad Bible (2-for-4, R, 2RBI) hit a two-run homer to center field with one out. The next batter, Julian Escobedo (1-for-3, R, BB), tripled. Casey Schmitt (2-for-3, RBI) singled through the left side and drove home Escobedo for a 7-2 victory.
In game two it was all Aztecs. They had 16 hits in the victory over the Spartans.
San Diego State was up 11-0 when Kellen Strahm (2-for-4, RBI) singled to center field and sent Jace Duty (0-for-1, BB) home for the Spartans lone run in the game.
The San Jose State baseball team returns to action Monday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m. to take on the Utah Utes at Municipal Stadium.
