Colorado Springs, Colo. - San José State junior Franziska Friedrich has been named the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week for play through April 11. It's the first time that Friedrich has received the weekly/monthly award in her career.
Friedrich tied for 19th earlier this week at the Silverado Showdown in Napa and recorded her fourth top-20 finish of the season. She shot a four-over 220 over the three rounds played including a 73 in rounds two and three. Friedrich made nine birdies and 33 pars during the tournament.
Friedrich faced steep competition at the tournament, defeating 16 players ranked in the GolfStat top-100. San José State faced 12 teams in the GolfStat top-50 at the tournament including five of the top-10 teams (No. 1 UCLA, No. 4 Stanford, No. 6 Texas, No. 8 USC and No. 10 Arizona State).
San José State competes April 16-18 at the 2018 Mountain West Championship at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
