Rancho Mirage, Calif.--Three Spartan women's golfers finished in the top-20, and San José State shot its best round of the 2018 Mountain West Championship on Wednesday at the Mission Hills Country Club.
San José State shot a 295 in the final round to finish in sixth place at 910. The Spartans rebounded from the second round by making 14 birdies on Wednesday. UNLV won the team title for the third consecutive year by eight shots over San Diego State.
Abegail Arevalo finished 17th at the championship with a nine-over 225. She shot a 73 in the final round with two birdies and 13 pars made.
Franziska Friedrich and Alexandra Cooper tied for 18th at 11-over 227. Friedrich shot a one-over 73 for the final round, making four birdies and shot one-under par over her final nine holes. Cooper shot a two-over 74 in the third round, making three birdies including two over the final four holes.
Elizabeth Schultz finished her Spartan career by shooting a three-over 75 and tied for 24th at 15-over 231. She made two birdies and 11 pars and shot even par over her final nine holes.
Schultz finishes her career by playing in 115 of 115 possible rounds during her four seasons. She was runner-up at two tournaments - 2014 Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate and 2015 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic. Her best round came at the 2015 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown where she shot a 66 in the first round. Schultz is only one of five Spartan players to record a 66 in school history.
"Liz played a solid round for us today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "She went out with her head held up. She has a great passion for the game, and we will miss that."
Judith Castro Roldan shot an 86 and finished 45th at 258. She made three birdies in the final round.
"We played better today but we still need to finish rounds better," stated Dormann.
