Final Stats

Fort Collins, Colo. - After pounding out 25 hits and scoring 31 runs in the first two games of its series against the Colorado State Rams, the San José State softball team's bats went cold on Sunday and the Spartans dropped the series finale 10-3.

The Spartans got just four hits in the game, two in the second and two more in the sixth, but they were not with out opportunities to score. Rams' starter Alison Petty issued eight walks, but allowed only three runs.

In the top of the first SJSU had runners on first and second, both by way of walk, but couldn't come up with the big hit.

In the second, Desiree Reyes (1-for-2, RBI) led off with a single and two batters later Rayohna Sagapolu (1-for-2) singled to put the Spartans in business, but Petty then retired 10 of the next 11 batters she faced, giving up just a walk to Kaelin Amrein to open the fourth.

While San José State (27-15, 11-6 MW) was held off the scoreboard through the first five innings, the Rams took advantage of three Spartans pitchers.

Starter Madison Aurin (12-11) lasted an inning and a third giving up five hits and two first inning runs. She was lifted with one out in the second in favor of Caroline Bowman

Bowman, who limited Colorado State to two hits over four innings on Saturday, in notching her 13th victory of the season, went 2.2 innings on Sunday. She allowed six hits and four runs.

The third SJSU pitcher of the game, Desiree Severance, came on in the fifth and inherited a runner at second. She pitched 1.0 inning giving up four runs on three hits. In the sixth, Kacie Gresenz entered with a runner on third and got the last three outs.

Trailing 7-0 in the sixth, San José State finally got on the scoreboard. The Spartans loaded the bases on a Brittany Abacherli walk and back-to-back singles from Cassidy Clark (1-for-4, R) and Kaelin Amrein (1-for-3, R). Reyes then walked to plate the team's first run. Georgia Blair then hit into a fielder's choice scoring the second run of the inning.

Sagapolu walked to load the bases again, Alyssa Avila followed her with a walk to push the Spartans third run of the inning across. It appeared the Spartans were back in the game.

But Colorado State (24-14, 8-7 MW), got the three runs right back in the bottom of the sixth for a 10-3 lead which was the final score.

The Spartans host New Mexico next weekend in the team's final homestand of the season.
