Final 54-hole results

Bremerton, Wash.----- San Jose State University's Sean Yu and Sean Talmadge each finished in the top-10 in the individual competition for the Mountain West Men's Golf Championship at the Gold Mountain Olympic Course.

Yu posted a 54-hole total of two-under par 214 after shooting a final round 73 on the par 72, 7,111-yard course. He tied with New Mexico's Galven Green for third place, the highest individual finish by a Spartan in a Mountain West Championship since San Jose State joined the conference.

"He played good, hard-nosed golf (on the final day)," said San Jose State men's golf coach John Kennaday about the sophomore from Taiwan who still had enough in him to drive the green on the 18th hole and finish with a birdie to tie for third. "He found a way to get it done."

Talmadge tied for ninth place at even par 216. He closed out the championship with a three-over 75. Only 11 players had a final round score under par.

The finishes by Yu and Talmadge at the Mountain West Championship mark the first time two Spartans finished in the top-10 in the battle for medalist honors since joining the conference in July 2013.

UNLV's Shintaro Ban was a runaway winner for medalist honors posting a 16-under par 200, nine strokes better than runner-up Grant Booth of Nevada, who came in at 209.

As a team, San Jose State finished ninth in the 11-team race. The Spartans started the final round in sixth place, had a chance to finish as high as fourth, but gave up four strokes to par in the final three holes for a 300 score on the day and 885 total for the championship.

"This is a hard golf course. It wasn't from a lack of effort. The guys gave it everything they had. It's real disappointing to come up short (in the team competition)," said Kennaday. "At least we were in the battle. We'll grow from that, but it hurts right now.

"We really did a lot of good stuff. We battled and we were in it. It was that close of a tournament."

UNLV won the team title with an 856 total. Colorado State was next at 867. Nevada at 875, Fresno State at 881 and Wyoming and New Mexico tied for fifth at 882 rounded out the top six teams.
