Match Results

Boise, Idaho----- San Jose State University's defense of its Mountain West women's tennis championship came to an end in the semifinal round when #2-seed Fresno State defeated the Spartans, 4-0, at the Appleton Tennis Center.

The #3-seed San Jose State (13-9) was unable to solve Fresno State's play for the second time this season. In a regular season dual meet, the Bulldogs (11-12) defeated the Spartans, 4-2.

"I'm proud of this team and proud to get to the semifinals. We ran up against a solid Fresno State team. We would have loved to keep playing, but the better team won today," said San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka.

Losing the doubles point to open a match finally caught up with the Spartans, which had won three consecutive matches despite trailing, 1-0. San Jose State needed four singles victories to advance to the April 29 championship match against UNLV.

#1-Sybille Gauvain and #2-Tamara Culibrk each captured a first set, but they were unable to finish their match victorious before Georgia Lawson at #5, Olivia Noble at #6 and Juliane Triebe of Fresno State each won in straight sets.

For Gauvain, she finished her college career with 132 combined singles and doubles wins as a Spartan tying her with Sebastiani Leon Chao for third place on San Jose State's career list for wins.

"Sybille leaves us at #3 on our all-time list. Playing #1 in singles and doubles the entire time, that is quite an accomplishment," the Spartans' coach said about the team's only senior.
