Napa, Calif.-- Ysabel Tran and Franziska Friedrich each shot a two-over 74 on Sunday in the first round of the Silverado Showdown and are tied for 19th. The San José State women's golf team shot a 12-over 300 and are tied for eighth with 14th-ranked Northwestern.
Tran made 14 pars and a birdie during her round, shooting two-over par on the front nine and even par over the back nine. Friedrich started the round by shooting two-over par for the first six holes, making birdies on #3 and #6, before making 12 pars to end the round.
Abegail Arevalo is tied for 32nd at three-over 75, making two birdies and 11 pars. Elizabeth Schultz is tied for 51st at five-over 77, making two birdies and nine pars. Alexandra Cooper made one birdie and 12 pars and is tied 73rd at seven-over 79.
In a field with 12 ranked opponents, San José State is tied for eighth with Northwestern at 300, 10 shots behind leader and eighth-ranked Southern California.
"There are some new hole locations that were challenging," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We hit many good shots but did not capitalize with the putter. We must play better on the par fives the next two days."
San Jose State begins second-round action on Monday beginning at 7:45 a.m. off of the first tee. The Spartans will play with Washington State and Northwestern.
