Baseball Loses 10-5 At Pacific

Stockton, Calif. --- The San Jose State University baseball team's (19-23) five-game win streak came to an end Tuesday night at Klein Family Field when the Spartans lost 10-5 to the Pacific Tigers (18-25) in a non-conference game.

In the third inning, the Spartans got off to a quick start taking a 3-0 lead, but Pacific answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to go up, 5-3.

San Jose State tied it up 5-5 in the with two runs in the fifth. Michael Bowes grounded out to shortstop Matthew Tarantino to bring home Kellen Strahm. Then Kyle Morrison singled to right field with one out to drive home Shane Timmons for the tying run.

However, Pacific answered once again with a four-spot in the fifth frame to take a 9-5 lead that it would hold for the remainder of the game.

Five different Spartans contributed offensively with RBI's. Brett Bautista (1-for-5, R, RBI), Strahm (1-for-4, R, RBI), Bowes (0-for-2, RBI), Morrison (2-for-3, RBI), and Santiago Cantu (2-for-3, R, RBI).

It was a staff game on the mound for the San Jose State with nine different pitchers seeing action. Josh Zanger (1-2) got the start and allowed one earned run to the 10 batters he faced in 2.1 innings. Zach Wallace (0-2), the third Spartan pitcher, pitched 1.1 innings, was charged with all four Tigers' runs in the fifth and took the loss.

Lucas Sweany (1-5) earned the win for the Tigers. Sweany entered in the fifth and faced eight batters in 2.2 innings.

The Spartans travel to Las Vegas for a three-game series with UNLV starting Friday, May 4 at 6:05 p.m. inside Earl Wilson Stadium.
