San Luis Obispo, Calif. --- The San Jose State University baseball team (21-25) lost 5-3 to Cal Poly (22-25) Wednesday night at Baggett Stadium. The Spartans split the midweek season series with the Mustangs 1-1. Previously this season, the Spartans won 7-4 at Municipal Stadium.

Santiago Cantu (1-for-4, R, RBI, HR) hit the first home run of his career in the top of the fourth. The freshman from Patterson, California nailed a solo shot over the left field wall with one out to take a 3-1 lead over the Mustangs.

In the Mustang's seventh, Scott Ogrin broke the 3-3 tie when he singled through the left side with two outs and scored two runners from scoring position.

Aaron Pleschner was the only Spartan to record a multi-hit game. The junior went 2-for-5 and scored one run. Since April 22, Pleschner is batting .375, with three doubles, and a .481 slg%.

Josh Zanger (1-2) got the start for the Spartans and went 4.2 innings. He pitched three shutout innings allowing three runs on the day with two strikeouts.

Cal Poly's Kyle Smith received the win after facing eight batters and recording three strikeouts while pitching 2.2 innings without allowing a run.

The Spartans will play a four-game series this weekend at San Diego State. On Saturday at 2:00 p.m., the Spartans will act as the home team and play a postponed game from earlier this season. The first game of the Mountain West series begins Friday night at 6:00 p.m. inside Tony Gwynn Stadium.
