San José State University women's track and field's Destiny Longmire and baseball's Kellen Strahm are the Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month for April, presented by O'Connor Hospital.
Longmire set a school record in the long jump at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Stanford with a winning mark of 6.20 meters breaking her old mark of 6.15 meters. At the start of April, she jumped 6.14 meters for second place at the Mountain West Challenge hosted by San Diego State. Longmire was one of two Spartan individual event winners at the Bulldog Invitational in Fresno with a first-place mark of 6.04 meters... Longmire also became the second Spartan in school history to run the 100 meters in less than 12.00 seconds with her third-place time of 11.85 at the Bulldog Invitational.
In April, Strahm led the Spartans in batting average (.409), at-bats (66), runs (20), hits (27), walks (11) and on-base percentage (.500). The baseball team went 6-3 in the Mountain West. He recorded two walk-off game-winning RBI against New Mexico. In the first game, he tied the game (sac bunt in sixth) and drove in the winning run (grounder to drive in run in the 10th inning). In the third game of the series with the Lobos, came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on third and the game tied 2-2 with two outs. Strahm singled up the middle to win the game. He also had the go-ahead hit in game two against UC Riverside in the 12th inning to win the game 4-3. Strahm led Spartans in multi-hit games with eight - four two-hit games and four three-hit games. He recorded a hit in all 15 games.
