2002 "A.S. 55" Award winners
SAN JOSE, Calif.Ten current and former San Jose State University student-athletes were honored with the San Jose State Associate Students "A.S. 55" award presented at the Associated Students Awards Ceremony on April 25.

The A.S. 55 award is judged on non-academic criteria to acknowledge the unsung heroes of San Jose State for leadership and community involvement on and off the campus of San Jose State. The award was created for students who often go unrecognized for their dedication to promote and enhance the university and the surrounding community.
The Associated Students received 137 applicants for the award this year of which 55 were selected to receive the annual honor.
Two former student-athletes, onetime Spartan gymnast Tanika Byrd and softball player Kirsten Foster earned the award. Byrd is finishing her master’s degree coursework in communications studies. Foster is graduating in May 2002 with a double major in sociology and behavioral science.
The eight current student athletes include three senior gymnasts, business administration majors Kimmy Cianci and Stacy Martin and nutrition major Kasey Carter. Also included are Spartan senior quarterback and graphic arts major Marcus Arroyo, senior sociology major Hella Gram representing the women’s golf team, Christina Huffmann a senior communications studies major with the women’s cross country, Diana Lilly a senior business management major with softball and Anna Nordell a senior advertising major on the women’s tennis team.
