Seeking to increase his playing time for the second consecutive season, Steve is locked in a battle for playing time at a defensive end position. Nash saw his first major college action in 2001 as a reserve defensive end and contributed 16 tackles. The fourth-year Spartan has been a defensive end since the 2001 spring practice session. After redshirting the 1999 season, Steve did not see any action in 2000.


Nash joined the Spartans in 1998 after earning all-league recognition his final two seasons at Pinole (Calif.) Valley High School (Coach Jim Erickson). He was a first-team all-league pick in 1998 and was listed #10 in the Contra Costa Times' "Cream of the Crop" recruiting list. One of Steve's cousins is former National Basketball Association forward Chuck Persson. Nash enjoys reading biographies about America's great African-American leaders. Steve was born in Boston, Mass., on June 12, 1980.
