Miles is the only returning Spartan who started all 12 games on defense in 2001. Moving from defensive end to defensive tackle, he had his best statistical season as a Spartan a year ago with 33 tackles including 2.5 quarterback sacks. In 2000, he shared the team lead in fumble recoveries with two and was credited with 23 tackles. He moved from an outside linebacker position to defensive end prior to the 2000 spring practice season and earned a number-one role by the end of the spring. Brandon did not see any playing time during the 1999 season. Miles was a successful 1998 walk-on prospect who went on to redshirt that year. The graduate of Liberty High School in Brentwood, Calif., lettered in football (Coach Mark Frost) and baseball. He was a first-team all-league choice as a senior and was named to the county all-star team. Miles is interested in becoming a computer engineer. Brandon was born in Walnut Creek, Calif., on October 11, 1980.
