John returns to the Spartans after spending his first year of college as a redshirt. During his redshirt season, Toensfeldt added 16 pounds to his frame. The graduate of Ayala High School in Chino Hills, Calif., lettered in football (Coach Lou Randall) and track and field. He played right tackle three seasons was an honorable mention all-league choice his senior season. Toensfeldt first became interested in playing football when he was in the ninth grade and was 6-foot-6, 255-pounds. In track and field, he was a shot put and discus thrower. John, a native of Chino Hills, was born on July 10, 1982.
