SJSU Athletics provides an opportunity for personal development for our student-athletes through numerous programs that are encompassed in our CHAMPS/LIFE SKILLS Program. This includes the following:

Read to Exceed

A program in which our student-athletes can encourage the youth in neighborhood schools to read, while acting as role models in their lives.

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
A program that gives the team leaders of each sport a chance to be the voice of their team and to discuss concerns, opinions, requests, achievements and other important issues with athletic and university administrators.

Decision Making Seminars
We give our student-athletes the chance to learn from experts in a variety of different fields. Teams are exposed to serious issues such as the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, eating disorders and date rape. The power to avoiding these dangerous and damaging topics is through education and communication. Teams work with these experts to explore ways of making the right choice.

Project TeamWork
A program that exposes "former" student-athletes, who are on the verge of graduating, to real-life working conditions. At the same time, they act as role models for under-privileged youth in our neighborhood elementary schools. These former Spartans can finish their education on scholarship while giving of their time to kids in San Jose schools.
