SAN JOSE, Calif.—During the early signing period, the San Jose State University baseball team had four high school pitchers sign to a National Letter-of-Intent. The four will attend San Jose State University beginning in the fall semester of 2002.
"We are very excited about the four pitchers we have signed during the early signing period," says Spartan Head Coach Sam Piraro. "Each of these pitchers has tremendous growth potential, and all possess unique tangibles which should enable them to make a smooth transition to Division I college baseball."
The signees include two left-handed pitchers. Kevin Shull is a San Jose resident attending Bellarmine Prep, and Kenneth Salyer from El Cerrito High School in El Cerrito, Calif.
Also signing are right handed pitchers Matthew Eichholz from Tracy High School in Tracy, Calif., and Corey Cabral from Jesuit High School in Sacramento, Calif.
The Spartans begin their 2002 season with the annual alumni game at Blethen Field on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1:00 p.m. The first regular season game will be on Friday, Feb. 1 against St. Mary’s College at Municipal Stadium. First pitch will be at 2:30 p.m.
