Bowen Again Named To Bay Area Power List

The annual San Jose Mercury News' Top-25 most powerful people in Bay Area sports list is published. San Jose State athletics director Tom Bowen makes the list again.

San Jose State University athletics director Tom Bowen is listed in the annual San Jose Mercury News' 25 Most Powerful People In Bay Area Sports. Mercury News sports columnist Mark Purdy compiles the list annually.

Bowen, on the list for the third year in a row, is #25 and is among four of the six Bay Area Division I athletics directors named. San Francisco Giants general managing partner Bill Neukom is listed first for 2010.

During and for 2010, San Jose State won conference championships in women's golf and women's soccer, hired Mike MacIntyre as its new football coach, showed improvement in the win-loss column in men's basketball, had a top-10 nationally-ranked women's water polo team, balanced its athletics budget, continued progress in its Academic Rate Progress (APR) scores and produced more than 100 student-athletes who earned all-academic honors from the Western Athletic Conference and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Recently, Bowen was directly involved in presentations and negotiations regarding the future of the Western Athletic Conference and contributes regularly on the status of college football nationally as one of eight Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) directors of athletics serving on the NCAA Division I Football Issues Committee.
