SAN JOSE, Calif—The San Jose State baseball team lost its first game of the season to visiting Cal Poly, 11-1, Friday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. The Mustangs (7-4-1) came into the game allowing 31 runs in their last three games, but were able to take advantage of the Spartans' (4-1-0) bullpen scoring eight runs on three separate pitchers while holding San Jose State to just one run on four hits.

Cal Poly took an early lead off an RBI double from second baseman Chris Hageman off San Jose State starter Jeremy Rogelstad (7 innings, five hits, three runs, one walk and five strikeouts) in the second. Rogelstad would pitch four flawless innings before allowing a lead-off homerun to catcher Kyle Wilson in the seventh. Rogelstad would gave up his second homerun, a two run shot by first baseman Tony Alcantar, in the eight to and allowed two singles before the Spartans looked to Casey minister from the bullpen.

Minister (1/3 inning, three hits, three runs, and one walk) would allow three runs to score and get one out before being pulled. Ben Lewis (1 inning, two hits, four runs and one walk) would get out of the inning, but the Mustangs had built a six run lead.

The Spartans were able to score their lone run in the eighth on an RBI double from shortstop Ryan Adams. The game became out of reach for the Spartans when Cal Poly scored five more runs in the ninth off of Minister and Sean Farrell (2/3 inning, two hits, one run and one strikeout).

The Mustangs Tyler Fitch (6 innings, one hit, three walks and three strikeouts) held the Spartans hitless until the fourth inning when they were able to get a lone hit, a double from first baseman Bryan Baker. Fitch (2-1) was credited with the win for Cal Poly and Frank McLaughlin (0-0, 1 Save) would get the save. Rogelstad (1-1) took the loss for the Spartans.
