The biggest tight end prospect to join any San Jose State football team,
Courtney brings a unique athletic background to the Spartans. The 6-foot-7
hopeful was an all-conference defensive end last season at Contra Costa
College (Coach Jose Ortega). He was credited with 35 tackles and recorded
eight quarterback sacks. As a freshman, he was a wide receiver and caught
17 passes before he finished the 2000 season at defensive end.
The graduate of Richmond (Calif.) High School lettered in football (Coach
Tom Chids), basketball and track and field. As a sophomore, he was his
team's quarterback. He finished his prep career as a wide receiver and
outside linebacker. In 1998, he caught 50 passes for 1,005 yards and scored
12 touchdowns to earn all-state honors. Courtney was a two-time all-league
basketball player who averaged in double figures in points and rebounds and
was a sprinter on the track and field team. Courtney was born in
Greenville, Texas, on Nov ember 19, 1980.
