YWCA - Walk A Mile In Her Shoes
April 4th 2007
On Wednesday, April 4, the YWCA held this year’s “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” event, during Sexual Assault Awareness month. Male community leaders, student athletes, and residents walked in high heels from Plaza de Cesar Chaves through the streets of downtown San Jose to call awareness to the problem of sexual assault in our community. From our Athletics, 5 players from football team, 3 players from men’s soccer team, 10 players from women’s volleyball team, 21 players from women’s soccer team, 11 players and 2 coaches from women’s tennis team, and 9 players and 2 coaches from swimming & diving team walked the one mile course carrying “GOOD MAN XING” and “Are you man enough to walk a mile in her shoes” signs.
Sage Hopkins (Head Coach of Swimming & Diving), Bobby Matten (Asst. Coach of Swimming & Diviing), Byron Nepomuceno (Asst. Tennis Coach), Jeff Clark, Justin Paysinger, Travis Jones, Bradis McGriff, Jared Strobeck (Football), Ed Brand, Ben Sanders, and Gavin Wenyon (Men’s Soccer) were “man enough” to put on heels and walk with a smile! YWCA Development Associate Heidi Peterson said, “It was great to see these young faces coming out and showing their support!“
