Spartan Stadium is home to the San Jose State football team and the men's and women's soccer teams. The football team has played its home games in the stadium since 1933. The Spartans won the first football game played in the stadium, 44-6, over San Francisco State on October 7, 1933. The team's 100th win in Spartan Stadium came on October 21, 1968, as San Jose State defeated New Mexico, 52-14. SJSU's home field record is 199-109-17 entering the 2005 season.

Spartan Stadium currently seats 30,456 for football and soccer. Every seat puts the spectator either close or right on top of the action. Two stadium expansions and renovations in the 1980's increased the seating capacity from 18,000 to over 30,000.

The multi-purpose facility is the site of the school's annual commencement ceremonies. Concerts, professional and collegiate soccer, religious convocations, band competitions and high school football games take place at Spartan Stadium. The 1999 Women's World Cup and the 1999 NCAA Women's College Cup attracted record-setting crowds.

The stadium was the site of two firsts in 2000. The Spartan football team beat a top-10 ranked team at home for the first time when San Jose State upset #9 and previously unbeaten TCU, 27-24, on November 4.

The largest attendance at a San Jose State home football game was a 31,681 sellout crowd on August 23, 2003, against Grambling State. The largest crowd to attend any type of event in the stadium was an estimated gathering of 37,000 for a ZZ Topp music concert.

The Event Center, located in the heart of the San Jose State University campus on the corner of Seventh and San Carlos Streets, is the home of the San Jose State men's and women's basketball teams.

The $36-million facility, created by SJSU students and developed by the Student Union Board of Directors, is financed by student fees and facility usage. The Event Center and the Aquatics Center directly across the street comprise the complex. Over 27,000 students, 3,500 faculty and staff members, alumni and the surrounding communities use the facility.

Groundbreaking occurred October 1, 1986. The Aquatics Center opened in May 1988. Originally named the Recreation and Event Center, The Event Center opened in May 1989. The first intercollegiate athletic games played in The Event Center were the season openers for both basketball teams, Friday, November 24, 1989, as the women played Utah, and the men faced South Alabama.

The arena in The Event Center can seat 5,000 for athletic events and 5,600 for concerts. The size of the arena is large enough to attract major performing artists, yet small enough to provide a personal experience for the audience.

Also in the recreation area of the Event Center are 10 racquetball courts, a large weight room, a mini-gym and an aerobics room. Showers and lockers are also available.

Spartan Gym is the home of the San Jose State women’s volleyball and women’s gymnastics teams. Seating capacity of the gym varies from 1,000 to 1,500 people depending on the gym setup. The gym is located on the corner of Fourth and Paseo de San Carlos Streets. Also housed in the Yosh Uchida Hall/Spartan Gym complex are two training rooms, locker rooms and an uneven bar training room for gymnastics.

During the summer of 2005, Spartan Gym underwent extensive renovations to update the facility. New paint, new ceiling, new windows and new scoreboards highlight the many changes to the facility. The locker rooms are also being redone.

The Aquatics Center is home for the Spartan women's swimming and diving and women's water polo teams. Located in the heart of campus, the facility was opened in May 1988 and was built in conjunction with The Event Center.

The pool, one of the largest ever constructed in California, has a 60 meter pool (50 meters all deep) by 25 yards. The facility has state of the art heating, circulation and chemical distribution systems. There are also showers and locker rooms in the facility.

The men’s and women’s Spartan golf teams frequent several premier golf courses throughout the Bay Area. These courses house both teams for practice rounds throughout the year and serve as host courses for Spartan fundraisers and home events.

The Spartan baseball team practices and plays selected home games at Blethen Field, located on South Campus. However, the Spartans will play a majority of their home games at Municipal Stadium, the 5,200-seat stadium that also houses the San Jose Giants of the Class A California League.

The San Jose State softball team began playing its home games at SJSU Field in 1998. The program received a big boost during the fall of 1995 when ground was broken for a new on-campus softball stadium.

A capital campaign began in 1994 with a $600,000 goal to complete a first-class facility for the Spartan softball team and the entire San Jose community. The stadium project has already made great strides with the completion of many items. Phase I consisted of the playing field, a new irrigation system, outfield turf, skinned infield, backstop, bullpens, two batting cages and fencing enclosing the entire facility. Phase II transformed the practice facility into a stadium, with the addition of dugouts and a scoreboard.

The final phase of the project will add permanent bleachers, field lights, restrooms, a concession stand and a press box. The final stadium will be an enclosed facility with seating for over 700.

Spartan Soccer Field houses both the men’s and women’s Spartan soccer teams periodically throughout their respective seasons. The alternative to Spartan Stadium, Spartan Soccer Field holds 500 spectators and offers a wide-open viewing experience for all those in attendance.

There are three athletic training rooms throughout the San Jose State University campus that house the 16 Spartan athletic teams. The Simpkins Stadium Center Athletic Training Room, located in the Simpkins Stadium Center near Spartan Stadium on South Campus, services the football, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s cross country teams. SPX Athletic Training Room, located on main campus, services the men’s and women’s basketball teams, the volleyball team, the gymnastics team, the swimming and diving team, and the women’s water polo team. And the East Field House Training Room, located on South Campus near the East Field, services the men’s and women’s soccer teams, the baseball and softball teams, and the women’s tennis team.

Each training room is a fully-functional facility with treatment tables, taping stations, rehabilitation space, and modalities.

The football locker room is located in the Simpkins Stadium Center, near Spartan Stadium.

The football practice field is conveniently located near Spartan Stadium, the football locker room, and the Koret Athletic Training Center.

In November 2001, the Koret Athletic Training Center, a major cornerstone of "The Campaign for Student-Athletes...Building a Proud Future," opened to an excited and appreciative San Jose State University student-athlete population. The Koret Athletic Training Center is a state-of-the-art facility that encompasses over 10,000 square-feet of training space.

The Koret Athletic Training Center also contains a 1,000-square foot rehabilitation and training room that services physical therapy and sports specific rehabilitation. The new facility will enable the sports medicine staff of athletic trainers, doctors, surgeons, specialists and physical therapists to provide the best possible care to help prevent and rehabilitate injuries.

Today's Spartan student-athlete has more opportunities to succeed academically than ever before. Located in the Simpkins Stadium Center, the Scott Gadway Academic Center was dedicated in January 2003. Here, student-athletes have a place to study, work with tutors, utilize computers or seek academic advice.

The recently-remodeled Scott Gadway Academic Center is a gift from alums Stan and Marilyn Gadway, to honor their late son, Scott, a 1991 San Jose State graduate who majored in aeronautics. He died in a 1996 skydiving accident.

The Simpkins Stadium Center, a 21-000 square-foot, multi-purpose facility, is home for the San Jose State University football team and services all of the school's intercollegiate athletic teams.

The $3.0-million project was complete in 1994 without the expenditure of state funds. On-going community support and in-kind donations are funding the building adjacent to Spartan Stadium. An initial cash donation of $1.0-million from San Jose State alums Alan and Phyllis Simpkins kicked off construction in August 1992.

All 16 San Jose State University intercollegiate athletic teams have access to and use of the 3,000 square-foot weight room, showers, locker rooms, equipment room, training/therapy room, hydrotherapy room, team meeting rooms, and academic center.

There is a catering kitchen and multi-purpose room which serves as a reception/function area. The room seats up to 125 people and is available for university and community events.

Housed in the Simpkins Stadium Center is the 3,000 square-foot weight room with over $100,000 of state-of-the-art equipment. The weight room features Body Master equipment with power racks, platforms, benches, rubber-coated dumbbells, rubber-coated iron plates, bumper plates and over 25 pieces of machine equipment.

The San Jose State University Athletics Department history has found a new home as former Spartan quarterback, Jeff Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection has made a significant donation to make this dream a reality. The “Jeff Garcia Hall of Champions is located in the Koret Athletic Training Center Located just north of Spartan Stadium.

The interactive display features great athletes, great teams, great events and moments in San Jose State Athletics history. Former Spartan athletes that became famous after graduation, great donors, great coaches and administrators are also on display. Also displayed in the Jeff Garcia Hall of Champions is the San Jose State Sports Hall of Fame which includes over 300 former players and coaches.

Through the generosity of Jeff Garcia, great athletes and teams of the past, present and future are forever recognized. It reminds us of our proud history and accomplishments and at the same time memorializes a favorite son who grew up in the area, played football and got his degree from San Jose State, and became a NFL player.

The Jeff Garcia Hall of Champions is open on the days of home football games. It opens 2 hours prior to kickoff, and closes 30 minutes prior to kickoff.

The Gold Room is located within the Simpkins Stadium Center, and serves as a meeting room or conference room for San Jose State Athletics.

The Alan B. Simpkins Intercollegiate Athletic Administration Building is the home for the San Jose State University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The 1.7-acre property, valued at $3.0 million was purchased by Alan and Phyllis Simpkins. The building, which opened in July 1997, is 1.2 miles from the main campus and located at the northwest corner of Seventh Street and E. Alma Avenue and across the street from Spartan Stadium. It includes a 22,700-square foot building and 90 parking spaces. Purchase of the facility by the San Jose State University Foundation was possible through the Simpkins' gift to the foundation.

The building houses the athletic department administration and offices for volleyball, softball, men's and women's basketball, women's water polo, women's swimming, women's gymnastics, women's tennis and men's and women's cross country. Student-athletes have study areas and a computer lab. A ticket office for athletic events is operated in conjunction with the university's Event Center Box Office.

In the fall of 2005, San Jose State University opened the doors of Campus Village to more than 2,279 students, faculty and staff. Positioned on Tenth Street between San Carlos and San Salvador on the southeast corner of the main campus, the Campus Village will be a gateway to incredible academic resources and campus activities, the excitement of downtown San Jose, the opportunities of Silicon Valley, and some of the world’s greatest recreational areas.

Campus Village includes three buildings featuring apartment and suite-style living accommodations and a typical college dormitory experience. Campus Village includes recreational and study areas, a full-service computer lab, wireless internet access, an interactive gaming center, laundry facilities, meeting rooms, retail stores and underground parking for 700 vehicles. Fully equipped nearby recreational facilities offer residents space to work out, swim, play basketball, volleyball, ping-pong or pool.

Hassle-free access to the main campus is another asset to the Campus Village. Walking to the Student Union or the The Event Center is five minutes or less. Residents also can walk or bicycle to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library without crossing any streets.

Tower Hall, state historic landmark No. 417 and the most recognizable building on campus, was dedicated in 1910 after previous facilities on the campus were destroyed in the 1906 earthquake. Tower Hall, along with Morris Dailey Auditorium, Washington Square Hall, and Dwight Bentel Hall are the four oldest buildings on campus.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, located on the main campus of San Jose State University opened in August 2003. A first-of-its-kind collaboration between a city and a university, the $177 million, 475,000 square-foot library provides a center for life-long learning. Students, faculty and the community have access to the information they will need for educational and personal growth throughout their lives.

The 10-floor library features: 3,623 seats, 1,800 seats wired for the internet, 400 public computers, 135 databases of information, 4 computer instruction laboratories, 112 workstations available in the computer instruction labs, and 37 group-project rooms.

The collaborative design provides many opportunities for academic, cultural and community programs. Multilingual and special collections for San Jose’s diverse ethnic groups are available. An adaptive technology area assures all people have the ability to access the information and databases available.
