Fund Drive Raises $193,000 After First Week

The annual Spartan Foundation Fund Drive raised $193,000 in cash after the first week of raising funds for San Jose State student-athlete scholarships. The money was reported Thursday evening during the weekly Fund Drive reporting sessions.

The annual Spartan Foundation Fund Drive raised $193,000 in cash after the first week of raising funds for San Jose State student-athlete scholarships. The money was reported Thursday evening during the weekly Fund Drive reporting sessions.

Donna Rooney raised the most money for the week with $16,550. Steve Coates was the top rookie for the week with $10,000. The Golden Eagles were the top team for the week after raising $45,335.

Former Spartan DJ Powers spoke to the gathering Thursday evening at the Simpkins Stadium Center. Powers is a former men’s golfer at San Jose State and current assistant golf coach at Stanford. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college and talked about how the scholarship afforded him the opportunity to get a college education.
