Josh Hummel was named San José State University's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations in March 2014.
Hummel came to San José State after five years working for the University of California's athletics department. He was hired by Cal initially in 2009 as an Athletics Business Manager. In 2011, Hummel was promoted to the Director for Business and Finance. Two years later, he was named an Assistant Athletics Director for Business and Finance.
The native of Baltimore, Md., majored in mass communication and graduated with honors from Virginia Tech in 2001. He began his professional career in sports radio producing and hosting sports talk shows for WNST-AM, the first all-sports radio station in the Baltimore market. Hummel later spent two years as a play-by-play broadcaster for two Class A baseball franchises in the Carolina League.
Prior to beginning his career in intercollegiate athletics, Hummel worked for Accenture, a worldwide company that provides management consulting services. With Accenture, he served as a management and IT consultant for Fortune 500 companies that included Disney, AOL and Verizon Wireless.
Hummel is a Certified Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute and is a member of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA).
He and his wife, Kristin, have a son, Zachary. The Hummel family resides in Campbell.
