John Twining

John Twining

John Twining is in his third year as a senior associate athletics director for administration at San Jose State University. Last year, he also added the title of chief financial officer.

Twining manages the department’s business and fiscal operations, the Spartan Travel Office and supervises the equipment and training staffs.
His experience as a collegiate athletics administrator includes 10 years (1978-1988) at Southern Methodist University as the assistant athletics director for business affairs, seven years (1988-1995) at Colorado State University as the assistant athletics director for business and four years (1995-1999) as an assistant athletics director for administration and finance at West Virginia University.

Recognized for excellence in running the business operations of major college athletics programs, he was selected the 1995 “College Athletics Business Manager of the Year.” He was the 1996 president of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA).

Twining is a 1964 graduate of the University of Maryland. Twining earned a master’s degree in public administration from his alma mater in 1966.
