Jr. Spartans Spring Clinic and Spartan Sports Spectacular
2006 was a memorable year for the Spartans. On Saturday, April 14, the San Jose State University Athletic Department invited every fan to this year’s Spartan Sports Spectacular to celebrate a preview of the upcoming Spartan Fall sport season.
Unfortunately, due to heavy rain the SJSU students march was canceled, and youth clinic changed to the autograph session. All Jr. Spartans and youth clinic participants moved to the Gold Room of the Simpkins Stadium Center, where the trophy of the winners from the 2006 New Mexico Bowl Championships was on public display. They had an opportunity to meet our student-athletes from gymnastics, men’s and women’s basketball, tennis, women’s gold, women’s soccer, and swimming & diving teams, and talked and took pictures with the SJSU coaches and players, who signed autographs for their fans.
“It was so nice! I was able to talk to my favorite player, and he was so nice to me”, one of the Jr. Spartan said. “I am going to be a basketball player like him!”
Head Football Coach Dick Tomey presented his pre-season chalk-talk and talked about his team’s victory of the 2006 New Mexico Bowl Championships and discussed what is going on in the football program and what will the team be looking for to in the future. Afterwards, he held Question and Answer session for Jr. Spartans and youth clinic participants.
After Coach Tomey presented his pre-season chalk-talk, tons of spectators moved to the Stadium and cheered on the SJSU Football players at the Spring Scrimmage in the rain.
