Kevin Boyer hopes to end a series of injuries the last two seasons that has
kept him from contributing to the Spartans as a cornerback. Boyer
redshirted the 2001 season due to shoulder problems. His 2000 season was
interrupted when he suffered a back injury in the USC game. Though he came
back later in the year, he played primarily as a special teams defender.
The fourth-year Spartan was credited with six tackles in 2000. As a
freshman in 1999, Kevin was a starting defensive back in the TCU and Hawaii
games. At the end of the season, he was credited with five tackles for the
season.
Back on the same team with Spartan running backs coach Charles Nash, Boyer
was a football and track and field letterwinner for Coach Nash at Serra
High School in Gardena, Calif., Kevin was named his league's "Back of the
Year" as a senior. A sprinter on the track and field team, he ran the
third leg on Serra High School's 1996 through 1998 4x400 meter relay
quartets that won the C.I.F. championship. The 1998 foursome finished
fourth at the high school state championship meet. Boyer enjoys reading
science fiction books and watching Steven Spielberg films. He is interested
in a physical therapy career. Kevin was born in Inglewood, Calif., on March
19, 1981.
