Leta Walter honored by College of Applied Sciences & Arts

Leta Walter,a member of the San Jose State University Sports Hall of Fame, was one of nine "Distinguished Alumni" honored at the university's 2004 College of Applied Sciences and Arts' "Salute to the Stars."

Leta Walter,a member of the San Jose State University Sports Hall of Fame, was one of nine "Distinguished Alumni" honored at the university's 2004 College of Applied Sciences and Arts' "Salute to the Stars."

The former women's field hockey coach, who took the Spartans to several post-season tournament appearances, was a member of the human performance department serving as an instructor, business coordinator and one-time assistant department chairwoman. Once active in the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, she is a former past president of the Northern California Field Hockey Association.

The 1950 graduate of San Jose State went on to earn a master's degree from Columbia University in 1951. Walter served on the on faculty at the University of Texas before returning to her alma mater in 1955 for four decades of service to students, student-athletes and fellow professionals.
