When we take a look behind the scenes at our splendid Spartan Spring, it’s hard to point to any one reason why we experienced the most successful Spring sports season in the history of San Jos State intercollegiate athletics. Certainly our athletes, excellent coaching, great staff effort, and fan support all played key roles. We would probably have to conduct a public opinion poll to pick the essential ingredient that spelled athletic success.
There are also many reasons why we celebrated the best Spring academic record in the history of San Jos State intercollegiate athletics. Certainly our students, excellent staff, and supportive faculty all played key roles. However, here we have a hands-down winner in the “essential ingredient” sweepstakes. The sine qua non for scholastic success, the one element that keyed our academic excellence... “The Gadway”!
Thanks to the vision and philanthropy of the Gadways, Stan (BS 64 Engineering) and Marilyn (BS ’60 Applied Sciences & Arts); our student-athletes have been blessed with a state-of-the-art study facility. Named in honor of their beloved son, the Scott Gadway Academic Center offers our superb academic advisors every tool they need to ensure student-athletes succeed in the classroom.
Recently, Stan and Marilyn created a charitable remainder trust to enable the study center tothrive in perpetuity. They have ensured that generations of Spartan student-athletes will continue to say: “Meet me at The Gadway”!
In addition to their program-changing long-range support, the Gadways captain one of the top two Annual Scholarship Fund Drive teams for 2009.
