Eric Howitt

Bio

Eric Howitt was appointed Director of Equipment Services at San Jose State University in August 2008. He joined the Spartans after serving five years at the University of California as an assistant equipment manager with specific responsibilities to baseball and basketball.

Howitt began his professional career in 1995 as a student manager for Oregon State University football. The 1999 graduate stayed at his alma mater into 2000. He spent that summer as an equipment intern for the San Francisco 49ers.

Howitt has been connected with college athletics since 2001. He was the assistant equipment manager for football at Florida Atlantic University for the 2001 season, held the same position at the University of Cincinnati and was the football equipment manager for UCLA in the 2002 season.

A member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association, he earned his equipment manager's certification (E.M.,C.) in 2000. He was published in the Athletic Equipment Managers Association Journal.

Eric and his wife, Karen, have two children, Aaron and Ashley. The Howitt family resides in Concord, Calif.

Justin Weaver

Bio

Justin Weaver is in his 16th year at San Jose State University. Weaver has served as an athletics department equipment manager since April of 2000, working with all 16 Spartan teams. He began as a student assistant in 1994, and in 1999, was appointed assistant equipment manager.

Weaver earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis on sports management from San Jose State in 1999. He holds the Athletic Equipment Managers Association certification. The native of Sunnyvale, Calif., attended Wilcox High School, and currently resides in Cupertino, Calif.

Weaver also previously worked for the San Jose Giants from 1998 through 1999.

Mike Lane

Bio

Mike Lane has been working as an Equipment Manager for the Spartans in 1998. He first started as a Student Equipment Manager in 1992 for San Jose State Football. Lane equipment career began as a Student Equipment Manager while attending Glencoe High School in Hillsbourough, OR. He was recommended to the Spartans by his High School Coach, a former San Jose State Alum.

After moving to California, Lane also worked for the San Jose Sharks from 1995 to 1996 and became a Certified Equipment Manager in 2001.

Lane, a native of Portland, Oregon, is a proud member of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and currently resides in Milipitas, Calif.

Eric Sabin

Bio

Eric Sabin is in his 2nd year as the Intern Assistant Equipment Manager at San Jose State. Sabin joined the Spartans after serving as a Student Equipment Manager for Florida State University Football from 2003 to 2007. He also served as an Assistant Equipment Manager for Florida State Football through the 2008 season. He has also assisted with the Jacksonville Jaguars Training Camps in 2005 and 2006.

Sabin earned his bachelor's degree in Finance from Florida State University and is currently pursuing his Master's in Sport Commerce from the University of Memphis. A native of West Palm Beach, Florida, attended Palm Beach Gardens High School and currently lives in Downtown San Jose.

Shane Vernarsky

Bio

Shane Vernarsky has been a Student Equipment Manager with the Spartans since 2006. Vernarsky began his equipment career at Cathedral City High School and continued on to work for the College of the Desert.  He came to San Jose State in 2006 to pursue a degree in Kinesiology, with a minor in Business. Vernarsky became the Head Student Manager with San Jose State Football not long after his arrival. The native of Palm Springs, Calif hopes to work in the NFL one day and eventually move on to become a full time Division I Collegiate Equipment Manager.
