Men's golf ties for eighth at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate
Lompoc, Calif.-----With its best one-round team score of the tournament and even par by senior John Witherall, the San Jose State University men's golf team finished tied for eighth place at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.
Lompoc, Calif.-----With its best one-round team score of the tournament and even par by senior John Witherall, the San Jose State University men’s golf team finished tied for eighth place at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.
The Spartan finished with a 54-hole total of 902, 36 strokes behind eventually co-medalist San Diego State which posted an 866 score. San Jose State shot a 296 in the final round compared to a pair of 303’s the first two rounds on the par 72 La Purisima Country Club. Fresno State was second at 878, 12 shots behind San Diego State.
UC Davis, at 884, and CSU Bakersfield, at 886, a pair of Division II schools, and Pacific at 890 rounded out the top five teams in the 19-team field.
Pacific’s Jason Higdon finished first among the individuals with a 212, four under par. He finished two shots ahead of San Diego State teammates, Mark Waxman and John Lever, at 214. Ron Kilmer of CSU Bakersfield completed the list of finishers under par 215.
Bryant Reyes had her best finish of the season, tying for eighth place at 219. Reyes opened the tournament with an even par 72 – one of two low scores posted by San Jose State. Witherall’s 72 helped him finish tied for 51st place at 230.
