Men's Soccer Wins Student-Athlete Talent Show

The men's soccer team wins the second annual Spartan Student-Athlete Talent Show, held inside Spartan Gym on Wednesday night, November 28.

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose State University men’s soccer team took home the title at the second annual Spartan Student-Athlete Talent Show, held inside Spartan Gym on Wednesday night, November 28. The event was presented by the San Jose State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Men’s soccer won out over almost 20 total acts, with freshmen players Sky Cutler, Ricky Dorrego, Boyah Kaar, Kachiside Madu and Brent Young putting together an entertaining dance routine. The acts were judged by the panel of University President Don W. Kassing, Vice President for Administration and Finance Rose Lee, Spartan Squad member Mark Powell and Target representative Armon Holcomb.

For winning, Spartan men’s soccer earns bragging rights, as well as free admission for all team members to the Spartan Student-Athlete Formal in the spring, also presented by SAAC.

The Spartan football team fell narrowly short of defending its crown from the first annual Talent Show. Several members performed the haka in traditional garb to finish second. Women’s water polo placed third with a dance routine.

The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Assistant Athletics Director and Executive Director of the Spartan Foundation, Ken McDonald, with assistance from SAAC officers Michelle Minotti, Justin Paysinger, Brittany Boehm, Justin Graham, Brandon Hennessey, Travis Jones and Veronica Porte.

Minotti and Paysinger accepted a $1000 check on behalf of Spartan SAAC from Target, which sponsored the Student-Athlete Talent Show for the second year in a row.
